Journaling reads:
"Patrick Michael was born on Monday, April 10th, 2006.
I had a c-section and he arrived at 9:10am weighing in
at 7 pounds 14 ounces and he was 18 3/4 inches long.
We were discharged Wednesday and when we came back on
Friday for his follow up, he was re-admitted and stayed
until Saturday. We came back again the next Wednesday
for another follow up and had to be re-admitted and
stayed until Saturday again. He was admitted a 3rd time
the following Monday and we came home on Wednesday. We
had follow-up appointments on both Thursday AND Friday
and another one on Monday. We were all really drained
from being in the hospital so much.

They ran so many tests on him trying to figure out what
was wrong. The problem was that they thought he had 2
genetic blood disorders, one called G6PD and another
called Gilbert's syndrome. This was supposedly making
it difficult to get the bilirubin out of his system. When
babies are born, it's natural for them to become a little
jaundiced until their liver matures enough to work fully
on it's own. His red blood cells (RBCs) were breaking
down and releasing the bilirubin (which is normal) but he
didn't reproduce the RBCs fast enough and his blood
count went down so he needed to have blood transfusion
when he was 2 weeks old. He also had a little infection
that made things worse for him. They did a spinal tap to
test for meningitis but they later ruled that out after
antibiotics quickly made him better. All of this made it
harder for him to shake the jaundice. We didn't know until
he was tested at 6 months old that thankfully he doesn't
have any genetic blood disorders. Unfortunately, his liver
just wasn't maturing fast enough for him.

In the weeks and months following this time, he had so many
blood tests done. They stuck him so many times, he was so
good and barely cried when they drew blood. It's sad to
think that he got used to it, I think we all did. Soon it
didn't seem to be a big deal anymore. We kept thinking it
could be so much worse. But after almost 3 weeks of going
in and out of the hospital, we were able to take him home
and finally be able to hold him when we wanted to and bond
with him. I just wanted to cuddle and snuggle with him so much
while we were in the hospital but he had to stay under the
lights so he would get better. It was nice and snuggly warm
for him and he slept a LOT but it was hard to not hold him.
Mia was warming up to him too, she used to cry when he would
cry but that quickly wore off. She thought it was so funny
when she took his binky away from him. Guess that big sister
thing was starting to kick in already."

Jen, fabulous job of journaling Patrick's birth story and getting it all on a layout. He is such a sweet little guy. I love so many things about these two pages but one of my favorites is how you used the bandaids as photo holders!

Incredible story about Patrick after he was born. I'm SO glad it was nothing serious and that antiobitics did the trick. It's unfortunate he had to have so many needles for the tests Beautiful layout for a beautiful little boy!
